Public Input Requested on Draft Environmental Education Plan

Public input is requested for the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) draft Environmental Education Plan. This plan has been developed in response to House Bill 10-1131 which calls for the creation of the Colorado Kids Outdoors Grant Program through the Colorado Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the adoption of an Environmental Education Plan by CDE in cooperation with DNR. The goals of both the grant program and the statewide plan are twofold: to improve young people’s knowledge of the environment, and to increase young people’s opportunities for outdoor educational experiences.

The public can comment on the plan either on-line or in person. Public feedback opportunities will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Monday, Feb. 13 -  Poudre Learning Center, 8313 West F St., Greeley
  • Wednesday, Feb. 15 - Durango Public Library, 1900 E. 3rd Ave., Durango
  • Thursday, Feb. 16 - Parks and Wildlife Office, Hunter Education Building, 6060 Broadway, Denver
  • Wednesday, Feb. 22 - Parks and Wildlife Office, 711 Independent Ave., Grand Junction
  • Wednesday, Feb. 22 - Rawlings Public Library, 100 E. Abriendo Ave., Pueblo

Hard copies of the plan will be available at every meeting and representatives from the CDE and DNR will be on hand to answer questions and take comments.

More information can be found and on-line feedback can be submitted through March 1st at: http://www.cde.state.co.us/otl/environmentaleducationplan.htm.

Colorado Connections Goes Paperless!

After 20 years of sending you the latest information on conservation education and professional development workshop announcements, Colorado Connections is moving to an e-mail version.

You can probably guess reasons. Going electronic will conserve resources—paper and postage. It will also be more efficient because it takes many people lots of time and effort to create this document and keep up with the mailing list. Generating an e-mail version is faster too. A digital version updates you every couple of months with workshop opportunities as opposed to 2-3 times per year. The change to electronic Colorado Connections will make planning ahead easier for you.
