Research Center Library

Colorado Division of Wildlife

The research library was created in the late 1960s to provide support primarily to the Division of Wildlife research sections. The library evolved to serving the broader informational retrieval needs of the entire Division of Wildlife. Library collections are focused on wildlife ecology and associated ecological information and Division of Wildlife public historical records such as Wildlife Commission meetings agendas and minutes.  Under the capable oversight of past librarians Jackie Boss and Marian Hershcopf, the library grew into a specialized library having the privileges of being interfaced with large university and other public libraries to better serve the Division of Wildlife information needs. The library is now adjusting to the digital information age and will be expanding on-line capabilities to serve the agency.

The primary purpose of the Colorado Division of Wildlife Research Center Library is to access and store information on wildlife conservation and related topics for the Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW).  This has been accomplished through the creation of a collection containing close to 24,000 items.  These items include approximately 800 Colorado Division of Wildlife publications, 1,200 of our researchers published articles, 3,900 locally written Federal Aid Reports, 3,400 U.S. government documents, 450 theses, 350 media items, 200 journal titles and around 3,500 other books related to wildlife topics. The information gathered and stored in the library is to support the work of CDOW wildlife researchers and wildlife managers.

Kay Horton Knudsen is the Research Librarian.
