Annual Snow Goose Festival in Lamar
Annual Snow Goose Festival in Lamar
In a pre-dawn ritual, tens of thousands of snow geese lift off local ponds and reservoirs in southeast Colorado. The din of flapping wings and honking grows louder as the birds circle overhead, making their way to nearby grain fields.

This unique wildlife viewing opportunity is one of many attractions that bring bird lovers to Lamar February 23 - 26 for the High Plains Snow Goose Festival. The festival offers tours, educational programs, presentations, arts and crafts, and a banquet! Visit the festival's website for a schedule and the press release for more information.

Estimated snow geese numbers are in the millions, therefore there’s a need for hunting to maintain healthy populations. A waterfowl hunting seminar will be given Saturday as part of the festival and late light goose season opens Feb. 13.
