Colorado Parks and Wildlife is committed to being a good neighbor in the communities where we own land in fee title for the benefit of wildlife and sportsmen. Each county in which we own land is eligible to receive an Impact Assistance Grant, which is based on the agricultural tax rate.
In 2011, (for tax year 2010), 52 of Colorado’s 64 counties received $252,052 in Impact Assistance Grants, based on 377,899 acres which Colorado Parks and Wildlife purchased for wildlife purposes. Since 1979, when 27 counties qualified, this program has provided more than $4.8 million in impact assistance.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife strives to make the process of applying for Impact Assistance Grants as simple as possible. In January of each year, we send a notice to all county assessors where Colorado Parks and Wildlife owns fee title land, advising them that their counties are eligible for impact assistance from us. We also include in that notification the link to a special page on the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website, which contains instructions on how to apply for the impact assistance grant.
On this web page, county assessors will find a grant application for their county, pre-populated with most of the required information. Assessors simply enter the assessed valuation per acre of land and the associated mill levy, print and have the application signed, and drop it in the mail.
