ABOUT THE ARTIST
Richard Clifton was born in Delaware in 1961. He lives on a historic family farm adjoining the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, where he is surrounded by inspiration for his art.
Clifton is a self-taught, artist whose work has been featured on more than 34 duck stamps from various states as well as the 2007-2008 Federal Duck Stamp and the 1996 Australian Duck Stamp. Clifton is also a frequent contributor to Ducks Unlimited and other art auctions around the country and is well-known in the waterfowl world as an artist and an avid conservationist.
With his detailed depiction of a pair of Ross' geese, waterfowl artist Richard Clifton has claimed his third Colorado Waterfowl Stamp art contest win in a row. Clifton first won the annual competition to be featured on the state's waterfowl stamp in 2010 with his depiction of two flying pintails. He then claimed victory last year with a painting of three wading teals. With his 2012 victory, Clifton is awarded $3,500 and his artwork will be featured on the 2012 Colorado Waterfowl Stamp.
Richard’s work has been displayed in many of the top wildlife art shows throughout the country, including the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, and the Easton Waterfowl Festival, to name a few.
His artwork has appeared on magazine covers, a beer stein for Coors brewing company, engraved on shotguns for Ducks Unlimited, and on other art-related products. Richards’s work has been chosen several times for the Ducks Unlimited National Art Package and the National Rifle Association as well. Also, he has been named artist of the year for various conservation groups and his art continues to raise money for conservation.
Richard Clifton's rendering of a pair of Ross’s geese was selected for the 2012 Colorado waterfowl stamp by a team of judges from around the state. There were a total of 40 artists who submitted their work, representing 19 states.
