Sportsmen's Advisory Group (SAG) meetings are always open to the public and Division of Wildlife (DOW) officials hope attendance will continue to rise.
There are currently four SAGs - one for each of the DOW's geographical regions (Southeast, Northeast, Southwest, and Northwest). The four regional groups meet semi-annually, or more frequently if needed, and discuss issues of importance to sportsmen and sportswomen.
Originally formed to help the DOW with changes to license fees, the Sportsmen's Advisory Group has become a permanent part of the DOW's communication efforts.
While the SAGs have no policy setting power, they are another way for the public to directly interact with the DOW staff and leadership on important issues.
"The DOW is working to strengthen the trust sportsmen have in them," said Denny Behrens, a western Colorado hunting advocate who co-chaired the statewide SAG. "People who hunt and fish provide 85 percent of the revenue for the DOW; it's only fair that we are able to sit down every once and awhile and share our thoughts."
