Youth Late Seasons

Colorado offers youths, 12-17, an opportunity to keep hunting if they don’t harvest an elk or pronghorn before their season ends. This option is available to youths with unfilled female or either-sex licenses. Youths with unfilled bull elk or buck pronghorn licenses are not eligible. The information below covers how each program works and lists eligible hunts.
Youth Late Season Elk Hunts

As elk populations move closer to the long-term objectives, the need for late elk seasons is diminishing. Colorado Parks and Wildlife remains committed to getting young hunters in the field and ensuring opportunity for the next generation of conservationists. The changes made to the regulations for the 2013 youth late season elk hunts balance youth opportunity with sound biological management.

In 2013, youths with an unfilled cow or either-sex limited license can participate in the youth late season. New for 2013, youths are only eligible to hunt the late season in specific GMUs that are grouped with the original GMU for which the license was purchased.
