San Luis Valley T.E.N.: Teaching Environments Naturally June 4 - 7, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. San Luis Valley Teacher Field Institute, San Luis Activities designed for local teachers by local teachers. All educators, all subjects pre K-12th grade are welcome. Sites include: Penitente Canyon, Zapata Falls, Rio Grande & Russell Lakes State Wildlife Areas, Alamosa and Monte Vista Wildlife Refuges - custom activities and equipment kits. PLT in the Trees (PreK-12th grades)

Receive appropriate PLT activity guide, from preschool to HS.  All activities provide opportunities to build critical thinking skills, incorporate technology, and use differentiated instruction. We'll focus on those that teach about trees: biology, ecology, even physics-as you try out a new personal adventure sport: tree climbing, with ropes and saddles! Safely ascend into the canopies of teaching trees and experience dances with branches while absorbing the natural history, biology, and folklore surrounding the species being climbed. .5 Continuing Education Credits available onsite. Montelores OWL: Outdoor Wild Learning Teacher Field Institute June 18 - 21, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Varied Areas, Cortez, Dolores and Mancos Teach science, literacy, social studies, and more: Outdoors! Nature Play and Exploration for Early Childhood Classrooms with PLT (ages 3-6)

Become an investigator of a wildlife crime with NSTA’s forensics CSI curriculum. Practice eight forensic lab procedures. Hardshell gourds are a popular crafter’s medium. But what role do insects play? Learn more about pollinators as you transform a hardshell gourd into a lovely art object! Supplies are provided, but feel free to bring your own beads, feathers, pine needles, or other natural objects to personalize your design.

According to French lore, paper was invented after a nobleman observed paper wasps creating their hive. Learn a simple method of recycling paper to create handmade paper for stationery, scrapbooking, and cards.
