A Compendium of Wildlife Appreciation
Colorado's Wildlife Company (CWC) was published quarterly by the Division of Wildlife for over 15 years, from 1989 to 2004. Publication ceased when the cost of production and distribution became prohibitive, but the subjects and content remain as relevant and useful today as when each was originally published.
CWC always enjoyed (and still does!) a diverse audience, though designed and written for classroom use, and where it is still used extensively. You are encouraged to continue doing so. Note, too, that the last seven issues have companion educator's guides containing relevant lessons and activities.
Most issues are now available, here, in a Web format (links are at the bottom of this page), and more are being added. There are links, too, for the educator's guides. And, many CWCs are still available in the original, printed form. To inquire about availability, write to Heather Louder.
Many talented, creative individuals contributed to Colorado's Wildlife Company. Credit goes to Mary Taylor Young (formerly Mary Taylor Gray), who wrote for all issues from inception in 1989; Janet Sheppard Duvall was the editor and project manager from 1988 to 1993; Mary Taylor Young assumed the additional roles of editor and project manager in 1993; Vicki Mayea designed and illustrated CWC for the 1988–1993 issues; Linda Nussbaum Maas did the graphic design from 1993 to 1999 followed by Cathy Holtz Calder as graphic designer through 2004; Paul Gray created the illustrations, 1993 through 2004; additional illustrations were provided by Wayne Lewis and Joseph Tomelleri.
Finally, CWC would not have been created in the first place had it not been for the vision of the Division's Bob Hernbrode, who had oversight of the compendium and acted as its biological advisor throughout.
