The Colorado Archery in the Schools Program (CASP) promotes student interest and skills development in outdoor recreation activities by training educators to incorporate Olympic-style target archery into the Physical Education curriculum.
CASP accomplishes this by:
- Hosting an annual Colorado virtual archery tournament open exclusively to participating CASP schools.
- Developing mutually-beneficial partnerships between schools, teachers, students, community groups and Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff;
- Providing Colorado teachers with professional, high-quality archery instruction skills and lesson plans to teach archery to their students;
- Hosting an annual Colorado virtual archery tournament open exclusively to participating CASP schools.
The Colorado Archery in the Schools Program is an affiliate of the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®). NASP® is designed to teach Junior Olympic Archery Development-style (JOAD) target archery in 5th grade through high school Physical Education classes.
This program is for Colorado licensed teachers who teach physical education and want to incorporate an archery unit into their school curriculum. Core content covers range setup, safety, teaching techniques, equipment, mental concentration and self-improvement. The Colorado Archery in the Schools Program meets many Colorado Academic Standards in Physical Education in 5th grade – high school.
