Current, 'generic' lesson plans to enhance your Archery in the Schools instruction are
available on the National Archery in the Schools (NASP) Web site. These plans are multi-disciplinary and correspond to national education standards. In addition to the subjects addressed in these plans, English, art, physical science and history can easily be linked to the archery lessons.
Tournament Participation and Rules
For the 2011-2012 school year, Colorado is hosting our first virtual archery tournament. This program gives teachers access to the on-line scoring tools and reporting.
The 2012 tournament is open from January 16th until March 16th. All scores must be submitted to the system between these dates.
What’s a virtual archery tournament look like?
It looks like a tournament that you host at your school. You and your students host an in-school tournament and register each archer (it costs $1.25 per archer) on the tournament web site and report their tournament scores. You can even invite other CASP participating schools in your area to your own local tournament.
Why participate?
- It’s really fun.
- Add some excitement to your P.E. class.
- Encourage team work and friendly, supportive competition.
- Be recognized by other Colorado Archery in the Schools program participants.
- Top scorers and teams win PRIZES – including bows that have been donated by Brennan industries, maker of the Genesis bows.
- Your team or individual archers can qualify to go to the NATIONAL TOURNAMENT in Louisville, Kentucky in May.
Tournament Rules
It’s simple, we ask that you run your tournament using the same rules that every other Archery in the Schools Program tournament uses in the United States and Canada. If you have questions or need clarification, contact your Regional Education Coordinator for support.
Curriculum Ideas
The National Archery in the Schools Program® has some thoughts about raising funds to support your Archery in the Schools program.
Local archery groups, archery shops and shooting sports clubs are often excited to help local schools with their archery programs. We encourage teachers to approach these groups for funding assistance and equipment maintenance support. Search the web for your local archery shop and talk to them – they will know which non-profit groups are active in your town.
