Promoting Student Interest in Outdoor Recreation
Based Upon a Nationally-recognized Model

The Colorado Archery in the Schools Program (CASP), through partnerships among middle- and high schools, local communities, and the Division of Wildlife (DOW), promotes student interest and skills development in outdoor recreation activities.

CASP accomplishes this by

  • Developing mutually-beneficial partnerships among the participants;
  • Providing Colorado-certified secondary teachers with professional, high-quality archery instruction skills and lesson plans to teach archery to their students;
  • Assisting Colorado-certified secondary teachers with curriculum develop to meet Colorado educational standards and personal teaching objectives;
  • Hosting an annual, statewide archery tournament, exclusively for participating CASP schools.

The Colorado Archery in the Schools Program, incorporating the National Archery in the Schools Program, teaches Junior Olympic Archery Development-style (JOAD) target archery in middle- and high school grades. CASP is for Colorado-certified secondary teachers who teach physical education, designed to incorporate an archery-unit into the curriculum. Core content covers archery history, safety, technique, equipment, mental concentration, and self-improvement.
