Want to do something fun, as well as educational, with your students? Are you interested in butterfly gardens, outdoor classrooms/learning centers, wild bird habitat projects, wildlife studies, or native grasses?

Colorado teachers and students have worked on wetland creations, xeriscaping, windbreaks, nature trails, and urban wildlife habitat projects (and many, many others) around their schools thanks to the Division of Wildlife's Wild Colorado Schoolyard Habitat Grants program. Any Colorado educator trained in projects WILD, Water Education for Teachers (WET), or Learning Tree (PLT) is eligible to apply for up to $1000 for a schoolyard habitat project. (Projects must be student-led and student-oriented as part of the qualifying criteria.)

Grant applications are due by March 1 of each year. (Applications may be submitted at any time; if after March 1, however, they will be held for consideration during the next grant period.) Download an application (a PDF file), review the requirements, plan your project, obtain needed signatures, and send it to your Division of Wildlife regional education coordinator. (Note: For an application to be complete, the signature of your Division of Wildlife District Wildlife Manager is needed. To determine who that is for your area, call your local DOW office.)
